the one thing that gets at me the most [Mar. 19th, 2008|07:11 am]
[Current Mood | angry]

so as you all know, I work in fashion retail... it is a great job, love the clothes, love the team, love the job.

but there are some down sides.

like combating theft.

now, there have been probably three or four times that I have busted young teenage girls trying to steal clothing items and accessories.
but on Monday it was a completely different story.

A young girl, I'd guess between 17 and 19, had in her arms the following:
1 x Black Trench Coat
1 x Red Trench Coat
1 x Mustard button up Cardigan
2 x Bracelets/Jewellery.

She fumbled around near me and asked me stupid questions about our layby policy... and then proceeded to walk into the changerooms WITH the jewellery.  I KNEW that wasn't allowed and was oddly suss... so I took the jewellery off her and sat it at the counter... and that kind of startled her.

Then.
I got stuck behind the register with serving customers... I darted down to the changerooms to ask this girl if she needed any help with anything or any sizes... plus I took a good long hard look at her shadows and things... nothing odd yet.

Went straight back to the register and was again, stuck there serving customers.
The items of jewellery were still sitting where I had sat them at the counter.

I looked around and spotted her walking out of the changerooms and said to the customer I was serving:  "excuse me for one second.."

I walked over to the girl and this is what was said:

"How did you go there?  Any luck with any of the items?"
"Oh, not sure yet..."
"I'll pop the items back that you don't want..."
"No no it's okay, I am still undecided..."

Now in this situation, you can't FORCE someone to hand the items back, if they are undecided (regardless of if its the truth or not) you can't snatch them off that person.

I had to hurry back to the register to continue selling and all of a sudden, the girl had vanished.

When I had a spare few minutes after lunch time, I did a store tidy up, where we make sure everything is hanging neatly and correctly... I got to the area where the trench coats were hanging and the black one that she had tried on, in size 12... was hanging back to front...

As I was taking the trench coat off the hanger to re-hang it... WELLA!!
Two empty coat hangers fell from within the trench coat.

My heart stopped.
Because I knew it.
I KNEW SHE COULDN'T BE TRUSTED.

So I did a stock check on the red trench coat and the mustard cardigan... and we were missing a size 12 in the trench coat, and a small in the cardigan.

It makes me sick to my stomach because SHE knew I was busy and had many customers to keep an eye on ... and even my "taking back of the jewellery" wasn't enough to scare her into not stealing... and the whole bullshit with the "layby" questions to distract me... fucking pathetic.

I would recognise her if I saw her again.
The problem is that we can not say or do anything now.  We just have to wear it.
But if she ever came back in, I'd be breathing down the back of her neck.

Our list of "WATCH THIS PERSON" has grown... we know a lot of them by their first names now, and when they do come in store we greet them by saying:  "Hello Jane Doe!  How are you?!" - it freaks them out, because they have no idea how we know their names.

Little do they fucking know, that my boyfriend can find out anything and everything about the young teen stealing skanks in Launceston... and with this town being so fucking small... bah!

I have never stolen a thing in my entire life and never intend to.
And what gets at my beef even more now is that we have a Casual position sign in our window, and about 3 of the stealing-teen-skanks have come in to give their resumes to us.  We take them.  Make note of the photograph attached and their name and details and put it on our "WATCH THIS PERSON" list... hahaha!  YES!  IN YOUR FACE HOES!!!

Stealing shits me off so much.
Like come on, fucking grow up.

my french encounter [Jan. 29th, 2008|07:56 am]
[Current Mood | peaceful]
[Current Music |Yael Naim]

I was lucky.
I won this holiday to France.
Out of everyone in Australia that shopped at Just Jeans - I won this holiday.  Even now, after it has been and gone, I still can't get over the fact that I won something so major.  It still feels surreal.
Tuesday the 13th of November last year... my palms were clenched tight with a cramp and I was sweaty.  My suitcase was packed and there wasn't any room in it for my boyfriend.  I had been waiting for this day for a long, long, 365 days.  My bank account was fat full of spending money, my bags were shoved full with phrase books, passports, moisturiser for the long flight ahead and my journal.

I had never been so nervous in my whole life.  I can't imagine what it would have been like if I wasn't doing this adventure with my mother - if I was alone.
We checked our baggage in and we were just under weight (thank goodness!) but then it played on my mind - "what about all the shopping i will do!!!! ahhh!!!"

We flew business class from Melbourne to Singapore on a Qantas flight - oh my goodness, I felt like royalty!  And first class looked like the Emperor's lounge or the Princesses sleeping quarters!  It was so very comfortable, the entertainment was top notch and the food was yummmmo...  We felt like we stuck out.  I was wearing black tasteful trackpants = comfortable... I didn't care too much, but my mother was more worried about what the other people thought of us.

It hit hard, being greeted by the French ladies on board the plane - IN FRENCH!  Mum struggled even though it was 25 years ago that she headed overseas and she even learnt French in school!  She had the heads up on me!  But that didn't help her!!!  Eventually, once settled in, our air-hostess in our area caught on that we could only really speak English - and she was lovely, she explained everything to us in English.

We arrived in Paris on the morning of the Transport Strike which lasted 10 days.  This made our holiday in Paris somewhat of a nightmare to embark upon.  We finally worked out that the only way to get to our hotel was to get a taxi from Charles De Gaulle airport into the city.  We thought that yeah, it would take nearly an hour and probably $80au at the most... pfft!  2 hours and $180au later and we finally arrived at our hotel.  The traffic was terrible.  I felt sick and exhausted in the back of the taxi... I just wanted to sleep but couldn't because I was scared of being in another country.  It was weird, driving into the city, I kept looking out my window and thought that I was driving into Melbourne city... then I had to snap myself out of it and realise that it was the land of the French here... and that it would be hard coming to terms with that.

Our hotel was humble, clean, and warm... the room was rather small but it was enough for us.  We were spending 13 nights in Paris ... in a small room with your mother... it is kind of tricky to explain, I love her, but gosh, I don't think I could do that again!

Anyway, I have just realised that if I keep typing/writing like this, I will probably bore you all so much that you won't continue reading... so now I will post some pictures and write some shorter stories underneath them.

what i do best [Jan. 23rd, 2008|08:50 am]
[Current Mood | artistic]

chantal (hey girl!) recommended that i start up a livejournal based on arty-farty things...
i figured i may as well up load some of my drawings for you all to see.
more can be found on my deviantart page of course!

the way i work my drawings - i use really great quality, high contrast, high resolution photographs (stock and glamour/fashion/portrait) and work off them to create rather simple line-art sketches... from there i love to focus on the eyes and pouring most of my time and detail into the eye area... depending on whether i'm feeling lazy or not, i tend to either leave the hair undetailed or painted black... i am only working black and white at the moment, but i may venture into colour again once i can afford some decent prismacolour pencils!

i love drawing girls, purely for the fact that in most cases, their eyes are far more striking.  the most recent male that i drew was my boyfriend, christopher.  i drew the following drawing around april 2007.  i personally can see a little change in the way i draw from then, to now.
